Southaven Police Arrest Auto Burglars

On Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at approximately 1:00 am the Southaven Police were dispatched to 8835 Commerce, Southaven, MS 38671, in regards to subjects actively breaking into cars. As officers were responding, the suspect vehicle left traveling eastbound on Stateline Road, approaching Tchulahoma Road. Southaven Officers located the vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle refused to stop and fled eastbound on Stateline Road. As the suspect vehicle was approaching Tchulahoma, the driver swerved at a Southaven patrol car, causing an officer to make contact with the metal guard rail and disabling the patrol car. Southaven Police Officers continued to pursue the vehicle to the area of Fairley Park, which is located in the area of Howard Drive and Vickie Drive in Memphis, TN. The vehicle went off the road into the park, at which time the occupants bailed out of the vehicle and took off running. Officers were able to apprehend one suspect immediately. The Memphis Police Department and investigators were called to the scene to assist. Multiple stolen firearms were located in the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect vehicle was recently reported stolen in Memphis, TN. There were a total of 21 vehicles broken into at 8835 Commerce, Southaven, MS 38671.In total, three subjects were taken into custody for multiple charges. Two were adults, and one was a juvenile.Devante Abston, 22 years old from Memphis, TN.-Auto Burglary, Felony Fleeing, Aggravated Assault, Conspiracy to Commit a Crime-Felony, Receiving Stolen Property- Felony, Possession of a Stolen Firearm-He also has an outstanding warrant through Southaven for auto burglaries that occurred approximately a month ago.Jamal Moore, 18 years old from Memphis, TN.-Auto burglary, Conspiracy to Commit a Crime- Felony
