DeSoto County Sheriffs deputies are investigating a deputy involved shooting.

Investigators say a deputy was forced to shoot a man who tried to hit him with his vehicle.

The shooting happened Tuesday just before 6:00 p.m. as deputies were investigating a traffic accident at the intersection of Highway 305 and Bethel Road.

Investigators say Omar Paramo-Boyso drove through the accident scene, nearly hitting a patrol car and the deputies.

A deputy chased Paramo-Boyso’s vehicle and pulled it over on Highway 305 near I-269.

Investigators say as the deputy walked up to the car, Paramo-Boyso, tried to hit him with his vehicle. The deputy fired several shots into the vehicle as Paramo-Boyso sped away.

The deputy continued to chase Paramo-Boyso until he stopped at Gas station at Highway 305 and Byhalia Road, where he was taken into custody.

The suspect had been shot in the hand and was taken to Regional One in Memphis before being booked into the DeSoto County jail on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, driving under the influence, and other traffic violations.

He is being held on $21,000 bond.

DeSoto County Sheriff’s officials says Paramo-Boyso is an undocumented immigrant that currently lives in Memphis and is also being held at the request of federal immigration officials.

No deputies were injured during the incident.
