The Way I See It, A Pastor’s Perspective “The Power In Believing”

By: Pastor Mike

There is power available to those who believe in God. That statement paints with a very broad brush stroke to say the least, and there certainly isn’t room in one column to explain it’s true depth. However, we can highlight some of the key points here and write more about the subject later.
To reiterate, there is power available to you as a believer and it is power that non-believers will never experience. That power will give you gifts that you did not possess before you came to the Lord. Gifts from the Father such as wisdom and understanding; peace with contentment; restoration; trust; hope; love in abundance and so much more!

You may say “Pastor Mike I believe, and those things you speak of aren’t mine. I don’t have peace. There aren’t many days where I have hope. As a matter of fact, my life has become a lot more difficult since I turned my life over to the Lord! I struggle every day!”

All the more reason why you need power! 1 Corinthians 4:20 says this…

“For the kingdom of God does not consist in words but in power.”

What power is Paul speaking of? Simply put, he’s talking about the power of the Third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit! Look at Jesus’ own words in Acts 1:8…

“but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”

Power! The power to be witnesses! It stands to reason that if your life is in constant turmoil, and you are depressed or dejected or constantly fighting to survive, then your witness for the Lord isn’t going to be very effective! If you’re a defeated and struggling Christian, and you tell others of what you’ve experienced, the only response you might receive would be “Well I don’t want what YOU have, it sounds dreadful!”

You need POWER! The power of the Holy Spirit operating in you and through you, giving you comfort, giving you peace, and giving you solutions to your problems!

Jesus gave this promise in John 14:25-27….

“These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”

In the gospel of John, Jesus discussed the Holy Spirit with the disciples who would soon receive Him on the day of Pentecost. He instructed them that the Holy Spirit would be their Helper, their Teacher, their Comforter, and their conscience. And He is yours as well!

One of the tenets of our faith is that Jesus rose from the dead after His crucifixion and is now seated on His Throne, yet the Holy Spirit is here on earth working on our behalf. Furthermore, He is living inside of you if you’re a believer. Paul stated that truth it in his first letter to Corinth…

“Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭3:16‬

Think of it; you have the Spirit of the God of the Universe living in you! The Holy Spirit has taken up residence in you and offers you all the power, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding that is available to you from the Father, right here and right now! What are you waiting for?? Tap into that power! Jesus promised that all believers would have the Holy Spirit dwelling in them….

“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14:16-17‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Paul echoed that fact…

“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:11‬ ‭NASB‬‬

He is dwelling within you if you’re a believer! You must learn however, to listen to Him. You must not grieve Him with your rejecting Him. He is gentle yet He is holy and He is easily grieved by our sins. If you desire to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, then your life must be an attempt at holiness. You must crucify your fleshly desires and walk in righteousness if you indeed want His power. His peace will then be in you! You can have His wisdom too. He will give you comfort. He will be your confidant. Learn to lean on Him. Learn to listen to Him when He speaks in that still small voice. Learn to obey His instruction and simply submit.

If you’re a believer, when you’re tempted to sin there is almost always a gut feeling that you shouldn’t. The world would call it your conscience. In truth, it’s the Holy Spirit. His gentle warning from deep within your spirit is telling you to say no to the temptation. When you learn to recognize His voice and you learn to submit to Him, you will have answers! You will conquer and overcome! You will have POWER!!
And that’s the way I see it.
