Long Time Educator Not Forgotten

Former Principal at Hernando High School and DeSoto County Schools’ board member Theron Long passed away this past weekend after a brief illness.

Long, who began teaching and coaching at DeSoto County Schools in 1958, had a career that lasted 44 years, serving as principal at HHS for almost three decades.
He also served a total of four years on the Board of Education.

School officials said Long was a leader who helped DeSoto County Schools become the premier public education system in state.
You may remember the Hernando High School gym was named in his honor in 2007.
In 1991, Coach Long was chosen Mississippi Secondary School Principal of the Year.
Long was 83.
