The Rewards Of An Overcomer

In the second and third chapters of the book of Revelation, Jesus shares with John the Disciple all the rewards that will be bestowed on those who overcome.  These rewards will be given out to all who overcome sin and rise to serve the Lord faithfully while on Earth. Let’s see them as written in the New American Standard Version…..

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God.”

Revelation 2:7

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt by the second death.”

Revelation 2:11

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, to him I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no one knows but he who receives it.”

Revelation 2:17

“He who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds until the end, to him I will give authority over the Nations; and he shall rule them with a rod of iron, as the vessels of the potter are broken to pieces, as I also have received authority from My Father; and I will give him the morning star.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭2:26-28‬

“He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.”

Revelation 3:5

“He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name.”

Revelation 3:12

“He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3:21

Those promises are what awaits you if you overcome!  Let’s summarize them…..

First and foremost, you will dwell in Paradise for all eternity. And you will be sustained as you eat from the tree of life.

You won’t be hurt by the second death. The second death follows the first death which is physical. The second death is separation from God, dwelling in eternal torment in the lake of fire. Those who overcome will escape that horrible second death.

(“But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.””

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21:8)

You will get to eat manna, as the children of Israel did. It sustained them with all the nutrients they needed.

You will get a new name from Jesus, and only you will know it.

You will have authority over the Nations and you will rule over them.

You will be given the morning star. Many scholars interpret this to mean you will be given Christ Himself in His full glory.

You will be clothed in pure white garments.

Your name will NOT be erased from the book of life.

Jesus will brag on you before God and the angels.

You won’t have to leave the Temple of God ever, and you’ll be branded with the name of God and with Jesus’ new name.

You will get to sit down with Jesus on His Throne.

Those are wonderful rewards we can all look forward to if we overcome!  The definition of “overcome” in the original Greek is to subdue, conquer, overcome, prevail, get the victory.

So when you prevail and get the victory over sin in your life, and when you conquer fear and doubt, you will overcome!

Here are the keys to overcoming; when you rise up to obey all that the Lord commands us, then you’ll overcome the flesh. When you love God with all your heart, your mind, your soul, and your strength, and walk in love towards others, you are certainly being an overcomer in your heart. And you’ll be an overcomer in your mind if you love the Lord more than you love earthly pleasures and strive to please Him.

And finally, if you’re an overcomer, you’ll be a celebrated hero in the Lord’s army and you will have MUCH to look forward to!

Be an overcomer!  The alternative is Hell!  Forever!

And that’s the way I see it!
