Being An Overpowering Overcomer

There may be some of you who occasionally read these columns, yet you’re battling something in your life, and the end result is that you’re not living an overcoming victorious Christian life. You try, but you just can’t seem to break free.
I get that. I really do.

But the real problem isn’t your drug dependence, or your addiction to alcohol, or your troubles with your spouse, or your struggle with pornography, or your battle with depression (the list of struggles is lengthy and the struggles are real).
But again, the real problem isn’t those things that hold you prisoner, the real problem is the depth of your relationship to God.

Before you cry out “Pastor Mike, you don’t understand my struggle, or where I’ve been or what I’ve been through!”, let me explain my position. When you fall in love with God, truly fall in love with Him; and when your relationship with Him is deeply rooted, you will draw from strength that is not your own. You will have wisdom that is not your own. You will have peace which you didn’t create. And you will have a Deliverer! When the depth of your relationship is constant and supernatural, then the struggles still might be there, but you’ll have supernatural escapes available. It’s not about a magic formula or a particular prayer you pray, or a verse you memorize, it’s about a relationship! When you are in love with Him, what HE wants is more important than what YOU want.

If you’re one of those battling, you might counter with “You don’t know what you’re talking about; I love God!”
Well then, ask yourself this question:
“Do you love Him because He saved you?” Sadly, that really isn’t love, that is gratitude. You are grateful you’re not going to Hell, and I understand that. But to be in love with Him in the way we’re describing is loving Him for who He is, whether you end up in Hell or not. Now THAT is love! To worship Him and be in awe of Him and in love with Him as you’re being dragged to the gates of Hell; that is the depth of the love I’m speaking of!
That’s the love that will bring you victory. Your worship of Him for WHO He is, not for what He has DONE for you, will make all the difference in your struggles. Again it’s the depth of your relationship with Him.

If you only love your spouse for what they can do for you, then if they stop doing those things, your “love” will die. Simply because it’s about YOU and what they can do for YOU, it’s not about who THEY are as a person. It’s the same with God! If your love for Him is based on what He can do for you, that’s not love!
Let me say it again…..there’s a difference in loving Him for what He has done for you, and in loving Him for who He is! Find out who He is! Walk with Him moment by moment! Worship Him regardless of gain! You’ll find Him when you seek Him! And when you find Him, you’ll fall in love with Him! And when you’re in love with Him and walking moment by moment with Him, your struggles won’t be overpowering; you’ll be overpowering them! Listen to Paul’s wisdom…..

“We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10:3-4‬ ‭NLT‬

You CAN do all things through Christ, and you CAN defeat the enemy when you are walking with God and are in love with Him! Look at what the Lord told the Psalmist…..

The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love Me. I will protect those who trust in My name. When they call on Me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them My salvation.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭91:14-16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Could it be any clearer?

“I will rescue those who love Me”.

Fall in love with Him and watch your world transform! I speak from experience. Change my mind!
