Southaven,Ms

The 15th Annual Household Hazardous Waste Day will take place this Saturday at the Landers Center.

Last year over 300 DeSoto County residents took advantage of the safe way to dispose of items classified as hazardous household waste.

DeSoto County Newsroom was told last year by District 4 Supervisor Lee Caldwell that It’s a great way to dispose of old paint, batteries and tires.

Household Hazardous Waste is defined as unused or leftover products containing toxic chemicals. Any product which is labeled CAUTION, POISONOUS, TOXIC, FLAMMABLE, OR CORROSIVE is considered a household hazardous waste.

Last year they filled up a 53 foot 18 wheeler with various chemicals and insecticides and over 60% of the items collected were recycled.

DeSoto County Household Hazardous Waste Day will get under way at 8:00 a.m. and runs until noon.

The Landers Center is located at 4560 Venture Dr and the collection area is located at the southwest corner of the parking lot.

This event was made possible in part by a state grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.
