Mayor Quits Unexpectedly At Board Meeting

Senatobia, Ms
Senatobia Mayor Alan Callicott announced his retirement effective immediately at
Tuesday night’s Board of Alderman meeting.
Callicott has been instrumental in guiding the growth of Tate County’s largest city for the last 25 years.
The City of over 8,000 residents is know as a “Five Star City” with a sports complex and other amenities you can’t find in some larger cities in Mississippi.
Callicott said, “I am very proud of what we have accomplished in the last 25 years”.
He went on to say that he had been contemplating the move for some time and felt he needed to spend more time with his family and running his insurance agency as the reasoning behind the decision.
The former Mayor downplays the effects of recent disagreements with Aldermen but went on to say “some issues have presented themselves as bigger challenges than in my previous 25 years as alderman and mayor”.
Dentist and Alderman-at-large and Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Greg Graves is acting Mayor for now.
Senatobia must hold a special election to fill the vacancy within the next two months.
