County Mourns The Loss Of County Coroner

DeSoto County Coroner Jeffrey Pounders 63, of Nesbit, Ms, was found in his home this afternoon dead from what the DeSoto County Sheriffs Department believe to be natural causes.

Sheriff Bill Rasco was at the scene at Pounders’ home, where Pounders’ body was discovered on the floor in the kitchen. He apparently died sometime Sunday but the exact time of death was not yet known.

Pounders was the longest serving elected official in DeSoto County having served the county for over 34 years. He was part of the volunteer EMS programs during the 1970 and 80’s and has served the county as a elected official since 1983 as the DeSoto County coroner.

Pounders also served in the past as secretary/treasurer of the Mississippi’s Coroner’s Association for three years, vice president for three years and as state president for eight years.

Sheriff Bill Rasco said, “The county has lost a great public servant and I have lost a good friend”.

Pounders is Survived by two sons, Josh, 37, and Jonathan, 32; and three grandchildren.
