Hazardous Waste Day a Great Success

Southaven,Ms
The 14th Annual Household Hazardous Waste Day will go in the record book as a great success.
Over 30p DeSoto County residents took advantage of the safe way to dispose of items classified as hazardous household waste this past Saturday.
“It’s a great way to dispose of old paint, batteries and tires” said Lee Caldwell District 4 Supervisor.
“We have residents calling all year wanting to know the date of the annual event”, she said, adding “It’s always in October”.
“They filled up a 53 foot 18 wheeler with various chemicals and insecticides” said Ray Laughter, Director of Environmental Services.
Over 60% of the items collected will be recycled.
This event was made possible in part by a state grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.
