Statewide Round Up

The Commission on School Accreditation voted 10-1 on Wednesday to declare an “extreme emergency exists” in Jackson Public Schools.

“Students in JPS are being systematically denied a quality education,” Erin Meyer, counsel for the Mississippi Department of Education advised commission members. “District leaders have ignored JPS problems for far too long and have repeatedly demonstrated negligence as evidenced by what they’re failing to do. There’s no other choice but to step in.”
The commission’s action brings the nearly 27,000-student district one step closer to being placed under receivership.
