Excitement has filled the air in Senatobia, MS as the Tate County Fair is underway. It opened Wednesday and will continue through Saturday, June 3.

Operating hours are:
• Wednesday and Thursday, 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
• Friday,4:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
• Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Admission to the fair each day is $4 for general admission. Fair goers may purchase ride tickets individually or can purchase ride wristbands for $15 Wednesday through Friday and $20 Saturday.

The location has changed this year. The new location is on the grounds of the former Chromecraft factory at 1 Quality Lane in Senatobia. One major benefit is all the activities will be on the concrete lot this year.

“We got rained out last year and there was mud everywhere. We have moved off the grass so mud will not be a problem,” according to Tom Lynch, fair administrator. “The weather forecast looks great this year but even if it does rain, we can be back in operation within 30 minutes after it stops,” he said.

Each day has a special theme. Tonight is “Faith and Family” night showcasing gospel music performed by local artists on the main stage from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Friday is “Armed Forces Night” where members of the Armed Forces will be commemorated. The color guard from Olive Branch High School JROTC will present colors during the ceremony beginning at 5:00 p.m. Saturday is billed as “Shindig Saturday” with a day filled with a wide variety of activities.

NASCAR fans will be treated to a special event Friday evening. A driver and crew from the Memphis 125 NASCAR group will be on hand for pictures, autographs and insights into the world of NASCAR. The identity of the driver and crew is going to be a surprise adding to the excitement.

No fair would be complete without friendly competitions. The Tate County Fair is no exception. Local grillers will compete in a BBQ contest which is always a crowd pleaser. Barrel races will showcase some of the best local equestrians in a fast paced, exciting event. A tractor pull will demonstrate the raw power of the machines as drivers compete for the blue ribbon.

Bakers of all ages will vie for the blue ribbon during some themed competitions. There will be the “Anything Bacon”, “Cornbread Extravaganza” and the “King Arthur Flour Cake” contests focusing on the main ingredient but open to any recipe.

Quilting contestants will compete for top honors and there is also a corn hole tournament.

The midway will be filled with new and exciting rides and games for all ages. Children will enjoy a petting zoo and taking free rides on the Kandy Land Choo Choo.

The Tate County Fair is a family friendly event and offers something for everyone.
